Bodyworks is a series of handbuilt ceramics and welded steel sculptures.
I am drawn to coiling in both ceramics and metalwork because it is fun, repetitive, and accessible. It allows me to work fast and think with my hands. As I build, I pay attention to what is outside and inside, mass and void, extrusion and cavity. I hope to play with and trouble these binaries, finding ways to challenge the semiotics of material. Each work is circular, hollow, and consideration is given to the surface treatment. Leaning into the formula and structure of object building, I try to find ways that the work produced is able to capture a unique series of gestures, actions, and choices.
